The other week, the Guardian had a story about the first photographically documented instance of humpback whale sex–and it just happened to be between two males. It brought to mind this nugget I learned about grouper (the fish): there are sex-change operations for them. This is apparently a thing. Unfortunately, the book I learned this in was not about fish sex or fish sexuality or even had anything to do with fish. The comment was an aside on the author’s way to making a larger point. But did it lead me down an internet sleuthing hole for longer than I’d care to admit?
Yes, yes it did.
This is why I love my job.
